# 72: My Pet Peeve

All war is immoral and ungodly because of the killing of innocent people on both sides, among other atrocities. However, sometimes wars seem justified as in World War II; still, in God’s sight, it doesn’t make war moral or godly, regardless of the beneficial results. One might ask, “Why are you talking about war on a Christian blog?” It is for this very reason: American President George W. Bush claims to be in contact with a higher power (God). This is the reason he preemptively, and without provocation, attacked Iraq for a senseless and unjustified reason: false information. Now our boys and girls are dying daily, leaving wives and husbands, mothers and fathers, children and other loved ones in the deepest pain and sorrow possible. This pain most likely will last the rest of their lives. No sympathy or empathy from anyone will relieve their grief; death is permanent. Think about the many thousands who have been wounded and are forever handicapped, and the number of Iraqis who are dying. We don’t hear about them or the sorrow and pain their loved ones are experiencing. Consider the billions of dollars we are wasting, which puts us deeper in debt. If Bush is a Christian–which I truly doubt–let him read the New Testament and see what it dictates about loving our enemies. I have written on this very subject in the “Democracy” blog and previously on this blog. Of course, if Bush were to read only the Old Testament, then I could see, to a degree, how war could be justified. But that is the very reason Jesus came to fulfill the old law, by introducing us to “Love our enemies” instead of hate. Listen to what New Testament Scripture has to say: Matthew 5:38-39. “You have heard that it was said, ‘Eye for eye, and tooth for tooth.’ But I tell you, Do not resist an evil person. If someone strikes you on the right cheek, turn to him the other also.” Matthew 5:43-44. “You have heard that it was said, ‘Love your neighbor and hate your enemy.’ But I tell you: Love your enemies [plural] and pray for those who persecute you, that you may be sons [and daughters] of your Father in heaven.” There are many other Bible verses that say the exact same thing. This is a radical turnaround in contrast to Old Testament teaching. The reason is that now God’s message of love and salvation is not confined to only the nation of Israel, but to all nations (Gentiles) that are/were enemies of God. “For if, when we were God’s ENEMIES, we were reconciled to him through the death of his son. . . .” Romans 5:10. [emphasis added]

Although many people believe that our country is a godly and moral country, they are mistaken. Our policy of warmongering is vivid evidence that our country is ungodly and immoral, regardless of how much we stand up for human rights and other decent endeavors with good and beneficial results. Also, how many so-called “Christians” voted for Bush in his second term? Shame on all of you. We Americans haven’t paid for our ungodly conduct yet to any degree. But if God has His way, and He will, we have it coming. This is not a nice thing to say, and I am sure no one will praise me for saying what I am forced to say. Please remember that America is my country; I was born here and I used to love it. But because of Bush’s disgraceful wrongdoing, and at the same time claiming to be an Evangelical, I am now ashamed of it. If I didn’t write what I just did, I would be a liar with my silence. I recently was told that if I don’t like America, I should go somewhere else. Since I am an American without a country, I ask, “Is there a country that lives by Holy Scripture?” True Christians are forced to gather in small enclaves here and there, without engaging in politics or war, regardless of what country they live in. This is an extremely controversial topic. Therefore, send in your comments and prove me wrong. By the way, I haven’t heard a word about the Iraq war since Katrina took over the airwaves. What is happening there, and how many of our men and women have we lost in the last two weeks? If you know, tell me by clicking the “comment” icon. By the way, make sure to log on to this blog tomorrow (9-11-05). It will be a short but extremely interesting and eye-opening post.

First time to this blog site. Al, after reading some of your earlier blogs, you seem to ask the question? Where did the first matter come from. On possible answer may be in the books "Conversation with God". Have you read any of these? If not, try one. If you have, your thoughts would be appresicated.
